Baseball: Introductory
In Japan, there is a game which is very popular for high school students. The tournament of this game is called Koshien, a baseball tournament for all high schools throughout the country which is held twice a year, in spring and in summer.
This game is played by 9 people in a team. The players are divided into pitcher who will throw the balls, catcher who stay behind the batter and catch the ball which is failed to be hit by the batter, infielders who consist of 3 basemen and 1 shortstop, and the last is outfielders in the left, in the center, and in the right of the field. In baseball, there are nine innings which are divided into top and bottom inning. When a team plays as the offensive team, each of the players will have the turn to hit the ball and they will be called as the batter. As the opposite, the defense team will need to protect the field and try hard to pull out the batter by strikeouts from the pitcher or force outs when the ball get caught by the basemen before the runner hit the base.
In Japan, this game has commonly appeared in television drama and comic books and it is always become the tournament which is highly anticipated by many students.
